Sophie's Learning Curve

“Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, and others make it happen."

- Michael Jordan
There was once a five-year-old girl who walked into a gymnastics centre murmuring that quote she had heard. At the time, nobody could know where those first little steps would lead.
There would be thousands of hours of training ahead. Early mornings. Long days. Falls. Injuries. Sacrifices. Competitions. Victories. Disappointments. And then getting back up and doing it all again.
Eleven years later, that little girl Sophie Leo, is now 16. Sophie trains more than 30 hours every week while completing her studies. What started as childhood gymnastics has grown into an extraordinary commitment to becoming one of Australia's elite artistic gymnasts.
And this September, Sophie takes yet another enormous step.
Sophie will represent Australia at the World Challenge Cup series in Hungary and Paris.

Look at these photos.

The little girl in the early pictures couldn't possibly have known exactly where gymnastics would take her.

But she kept showing up.

She kept training.

She kept falling.

And she kept getting back up.

Sophie likes to quote Vince Lombardi:
“Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.”

That idea means a lot to us at Curve Fitness.
Because strength isn't simply how much you can lift.
Strength is persistence.
It's discipline when nobody is watching.
It's doing something thousands of times before the world ever sees the result.
It's continuing when the dream is still a very long way away.
And sometimes, reaching that dream takes more than determination alone.
Elite gymnastics is extraordinarily expensive. Coaching, equipment, physiotherapy, medical support, competition fees and international travel can cost tens of thousands of dollars each year.

So Curve Fitness is getting behind Sophie — and we're asking our community to get behind her too.
And we're going to match your support.
For donations made between 16 Sep to 30 Sep, Curve Fitness will match the donations $ to $.

So when our community gives, we give alongside you.

$10 becomes $20 of support.
$50 becomes $100.
$100 becomes $200.

Because an Australian athlete, who has spent eleven years working towards moments like this, shouldn't have to chase her dream alone.

One of Sophie's favourite quotes is by Michael Jordan:
“Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, and others make it happen."

Sophie is making it happen. And we have an opportunity to help.
From a five-year-old gymnast to representing Australia on the world stage.

This is Sophie's learning curve.

And we're incredibly proud to be part of what comes next. Help Sophie reach the world stage. Donate today - and Curve Fitness will match your support.
